Vital Nutrients for True Living: Sun Warrior Review

What does health mean to you? The definition of the word “Health” means :the state of being free from illness or injury. To be honest, making the decision of  living a healthier lifestyle is not easy as it seem. Most of us don’t have the luxury of affording a healthy lifestyle, let alone enjoying the interesting flavors of plant based living. I have asked these same question to myself too, will I be able to afford this new lifestyle, along with finding delicious alternatives. Here is a little story of how I found my answers.  One night, after a long day of trying to make all of my classes, I noticed a difference in my appetite.

In fact, I hardly want to eat anything, if you’ve been following my blog, you will see that my diet has gone from poultry to tofu. *Just a Tip: Depending on your grocery store, tofu is an inexpensive way of transitioning from eating meat. This was my first step to becoming a vegan, but I still needed help with boosting my energy and satisfying my hunger on a daily basis. Thankfully my new friends at Sun Warrior guided me to a plant based lifestyle, without the stress of experimenting by myself. Let me tell you, I have tried so many protein products and instead of satisfying my appetite, I ruined it!  Well enough of my sad story, here is my new plant based road map  thanks to Sun Warrior.

Sol Good Protein Bar:Salted Caramel

The first soldier on the battlefield  is the Sol Good Protein Bar! Honestly, this protein bar taste like a salted caramel candy, while still offering nutritional benefits.  I’ve tried protein bars  in the passed, but the flavors were terrible, the only ingredient that stood out was the protein powder. Those past experiences left a bad taste in mouth, but the Sol Good Protein Bar changed my mind. The chewy caramel texture and grated sea salt made my snack time, dessert time instead. Besides the delicious flavor, this bar also satisfies my hunger and keeps me full for a good hour.

Classic Chocolate Shake- Sample

My nickname for the Classic Chocolate Shake is “Cold Cocoa”. In the video below, I will be talking about my personal chocolatier moment. Moving on, the chocolate shake is my favorite other than the Mocha flavor. The smooth texture almost made me forget that I was even drinking a shake, and the natural sweeteners made this experience effortless.  Here is what I say ” If the shake is hard to enjoy, find another alternative”.  This is my number 1# Recommendation in the Classic Plus Collection.

Classic Vanilla Shake- Sample

We’re almost halfway through the Tour de Classic Plus! So far you’ve got gist of how plant based living can be flavorful, instead of the bland protein powder taste. The Classic Vanilla is the definition of  organic nutrients, because of the rich taste of fresh vanilla bean. Usually if you’ve tried vanilla shakes, there is a visible protein dust or some substance that makes the drinking process a nightmare. Honestly, this has been the story of my life with other vanilla shakes. If your a lover of vanilla, then this is your match. Be sure to watch the video below to hear my commentary about the Classic Vanilla Shake.

1. Wild Sweet Nibs:

My first impression of the Wild Sweet Nibs  was very interesting. Let me explain, when I began to eat the cocoa nibs, it had a dark chocolate  flavor complimented with the coconut sugar covering it and then finishing with a bitter after taste. At first the bitter flavor was very alarming, but then I got and mixed the Sweet Nibs with some organic coconut milk ice cream and chocolate chips cookies. This took care of the after taste. These fun creation with the sweet nibs are A+mazing. The flavor is not too sweet, so you do not have to worry about taking inthe extra sugar and calories this holiday season.

My Wild Sweet Nibs Cookies:

The Wild  Sweet  Nibs are made by carefully crushing raw organic cacao beans (our favorite Mayan superfood). Then the crushed cacao “nibs” are rolled in coconut sugar.

Wild Himalayan Natural Unrefined Pink Salt

Pink Himalayan Salt is the best natural seasoning that I’ve ever used. Ok it’s been a year an a half since I became a vegan and let’s just say Himalayan salt is my new best friend in terms of flavoring. This organic salt has so many beneficial uses for your overall health, you can use it in various dinner dishes and timeless desserts. Here are some Pros to using Himalayan Salt:

  • Detoxifies the body by balancing systemic pH.
  • Improves hydration by providing trace minerals.
  • Improves mineral status of the body.
  • Reduces muscle cramps by improving minerals and hydration.
  • Helps balance blood sugar.

Mind you Himalayan Salt comes in different textures, such as fine or coarse. You can make anything using this secret ingredient.

3. Wild Turmeric Powder:

Along with Pink Himalayan, Turmeric Power is the fountain of youth powder and brings an authentic Indian spice to  your favorite dishes.  The Wild Turmeric Powder comes straight from the root and into your favorite smoothies or dishes in minutes. I am not a  stranger to Turmeric, in fact I use it all the time in my favorite curried tofu recipe. Besides the incredible tastes, Turmeric has life changing benefits.

Here’s a little facts:

Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. However, the curcumin content of turmeric is not that high… it’s around 3%, by weight (2).

The powder is very light, not too offensive and is the best way to keep the aches of the winter away. Due to the symptoms of inflammation and even helps with skincare treatments.

Now for  my favorite part of the whole Wild Foods Co. Collection!!

4. Wild Coconut Oil:

15644787_1745452875781535_1807881274_n7099855287_a0fdb16910_b

The final product from Wild Foods Co. is the best thing since slice bread was created. The Organic Cold- Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil. First off the smell of the coconut reminds me of my home in the Virgin Islands. The oil spreads on smooth and creamy which is the greatest thing ever! Usually, I have to rub other coconut oil products in my hands for a long time only for it melt. Thankfully my days of working hard is over. Also since my hair is natural and the winter breeze brings excessive dryness, this product came in handy at the perfect time.

I will be featuring it on my Youtube Channel: VivantWithDanna

Here are other important benefits about Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil is high in natural saturated fats. Saturated fats not only increase the healthy cholesterol (known as HDL) in your body, but also help to convert the LDL “bad” cholesterol into good cholesterol’s. By Increasing the HDL’s in the body, it helps promote heart health, and lower the risk of heart disease.

I had such a amazing time in the wild woods! If you want more video recipes, super powders and seasonings. Visit: http://www.wildfoods.co/ and tell them Danna sent you on the wild trail.

Tofu for Breakfast: Lentil and Sweet Potato Shepherd’s Pie

Makes 6 servings

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium sweet potatoes
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 1/2 cup diced carrots
  • 4 1/2 cups prepared lentils
  • 2 15 oz cans diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon basil + more for garnish
  • 1/2 cup chopped spinach
  • 2+ tablespoons non-dairy milk
  • Sea salt

Step One

Before anything else, peel and chop the sweet potatoes into small chunks. Get them in a pot of water and let them boil for at least 15-20 minutes, depending on size.

Step Two

Meanwhile, chop the carrots, onion, and celery (mirepoix) into small chunks. To make things super easy, I often buy a pre-cut mirepoix at Trader Joe’s. Or you can use a food processor. Add this to a large skillet over medium heat with a tablespoon of water and allow them to soften.

Step Three

Once the veggies are softened, add the prepared lentils to the pan. You can use any kind of lentils you’d like… dried (cook them yourself), canned (drained), or pre-made lentils in a package (as long as the don’t have any unnatural ingredients). Allow these to cook for several minutes with the mirepoix.

Preheat the oven to 350º F

Step Four

Open the cans of diced tomatoes (but do not drain them) and add these along with a tablespoon of chopped (or dried) basil leaves, a handful of chopped spinach, and a splash of soy sauce. Let this filling simmer for 10-15 minutes for the flavors to mingle.

Step Five

When the sweet potatoes are soft all the way through, remove them from the heat and drain the water. Mash with a little salt and a splash of non-dairy milk until the consistency is perfect.

Add the lentil filling to a 9 x 13 pan and top with a layer of sweet potatoes. Or, like pictured, you can add to individual oven-safe bowls. Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes until the topping becomes slightly browned. Allow to cool before serving. This recipe yields about 6 servings and makes excellent leftovers the next evening for a 2-for-1 dinner.

Farmer Fresh: Produce Candles

Summer might be over but it doesn’t have to finish on a low note!! Instead, let’s finish it on a high note by your missing our surroundings in pure nature produce and flowers. The candles from produce candles are like eating fresh fruits and vegetables except it’s a candle, the variety of fresh radishes, kale, and peach in a candle is something that you would never think to ever be made. When I first saw the candles I was shocked to know that fruits and vegetables can be infused in a soy candle, this left me speechless and my prayers have been answered the Produce Candle Company has sent me one of their candles. The candle that they sent me is a radiant Peach Candle, bringing to my Oasis a fresh Twist on a hot Summer’s Day. I don’t want to keep you waiting for long so let’s get started!

Here are photos of my peach candle:

I’m having an infusion of fresh fruit mixed in with a little soy and a little touch of Fire as I wait for it to melt.  You too can make your own home and Oasis and P.S . the candles are only $20 all of them. What are you waiting for this is their site http://www.producecandles.com and experience the same speechlessness that I did!
